What is diagnostics?
Virtually all modern vehicles include an ECU, also called an engine control
module (ECM) that monitors various sensors located throughout the engine, fuel
and exhaust systems. In a fuel-injected engine, sensors feed the ECU or ECM
information that the computer uses to make constant adjustments to fuel and air
mixture. When the ECU detects a problem it cannot fix, it trips the CEL and
stores a trouble code for later retrieval that points the technician toward
possible systems or mechanisms involved.

What are the benefits of doing a diagnostics scan?
1. A diagnostics scan is PRECISE, whenever any of the check lights are on the
dashboard, a scan can give the EXACT root of the problem/s.

When should we do a diagnostics scan?
1.When youre purchasing a car. Purchasing a use car can have its down
sides, one is that it might just have a fault that cannot be detected or noticed
by a simple drive test.
2.When there is a check light on the dashboard. For example: SRS and
ADS. All check lights indicate that there is a problem, whether it is
electrical or mechanical. Not all problems will affect the drive ability of the
vehicle initially but eventually it will.
3.Whenever the vehicle performance seems to be off. If your car is
noticeable not performing the way it normally does, a diagnostics scan is the
most precise and effective way to determine whats wrong.
4.At least once per year. Doing a diagnostics scan once per year is a
good preventative maintenance, in doing this you can detect a fault before it
reaches its mature stages thus saving you money in the long run.
5.If your vehicle throttles above or below what is specified
by manufacturer, this is normally 700 -900 RPM. If this vehicle is operated by a
throttle motor? It will have to be programmed by a diagnostics tool. N.B THIS
CANNOT BE DONE MANUALLY
WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO DO A DIAGNOSTICS SCAN
A few months ago in the United States of America Toyota had a recall on 2.3
million vehicles due to faulty accelerator system. Although no statistics was
provided on the number of accidents resulting from this fault, this proves that
a vehicle with a faulty electronic system or component(s) can intern cause an
accident. This result in persons losing their lives which in some case could
have been avoided if fault was detected.
The Agape team believes if you are going to drive a car that is monitored by
a ECU or a computer the onus is on you to ensure that at all times you KNOW the
total condition of that vehicle. Knowing the electrical condition is of
paramount to ascertain and minimize the risk of Any eventualities. For example a
car with a faulty Electronic Power Steering (EPS) can cause an accident as this
can cause the vehicle steering to be stuck in one position being uncontrolled by
the driver, if this driver panics, this can be fatal. Diagnostics scan will
allow you to be more conscious of the issues as it relates to the total
electrical condition of your vehicle.
